Introduction :

Daag: A Poem of Love is a 1973 Bollywood film produced and directed by Yash Chopra in his debut as a producer, which laid the foundation of Yash Raj Films. It is an adaptation of the novel The Mayor of Casterbridge.

The film stars Sharmila Tagore, Rajesh Khanna, Raakhee (who won her first Filmfare award), Madan Puri, Kader Khan, Prem Chopra and A.K. Hangal.

The film was made at the height of the Rajesh Khanna craze and became a "super hit" at the box office. The music by Laxmikant Pyarelal dominated the charts for the year. The film was later remade into the Telugu film Vichitra Jeevitham (1978) starring Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Vanisri, and Jayasudha.

 Summary :

A young man, Sunil Kohli (Rajesh Khanna), falls for beautiful Sonia (Sharmila Tagore). Soon, they get married and leave for their honeymoon. On the way, owing to bad weather, they decide to spend a night at a bungalow owned by Sunil's boss. The boss's son, Dheeraj Kapoor (Prem Chopra), tries to rape Sonia when she is alone. But Sunil arrives in time, and a fight ensues, resulting in the death of Dheeraj. Sunil is arrested and, later, sentenced to death by the court. But, on the way to prison, the police van carrying him meets with an accident. All occupants are killed. Years later, Sonia, working as a school teacher and bringing up Sunil's and her son, finds out that her husband is still alive. He is living with a new identity as Sudhir, and is married to a rich woman named Chandni (Raakhee). After escaping from the police van, Sunil met Chandni, whose lover had ditched her on learning of her pregnancy. Sunil married her to provide legitimacy to her child, in return for her help in establishing his new identity. Now, after so many years, the law is once again at his door step. This time, however, there is an added crime to his name: bigamy.

दाग यश चोपड़ा द्वारा निर्देशित हिंदी फिल्म है| फिल्म के मुख्य कलाकार राजेश खन्ना, शर्मिला टगोर, राखी, प्रेम चोपड़ा हैं| फिल्म में संगीत लक्ष्मीकांत-प्यारेलाल जी ने दिया है|

सुनील कोहली (राजेश खन्ना) और सोनिया (शर्मिला टगोर) एक दुसरे को बहुत चाहते हैं| दोनों शादी कर लेते हैं और हनीमून पर जाते हैं| रास्ते में खराब मौसम की वजह से सुनील को अपने बॉस के बंगले पर रुकना पड़ता है जहाँ उसके बॉस का बेटा धीरज रहता है|

धीरज सोनिया को अकेला पाकर उससे ज़बरदस्ती करने की कोशिश करता है लेकिन अचानक सुनील वहां पहुँच जाता है और उसके हाथों धीरज का खून हो जाता है| सुनील को कोर्ट फांसी की सजा सुनाता है| जेल जाते समय पुलिस वैन की दुर्घटना हो जाती है जिसमे सबकी मौत हो जाती है| कुछ वर्षों बाद सोनिया, जो सुनील की विधवा बनकर जी रही है और स्कूल में अध्यापिका है, को पता चलता है कि सुनील जिंदा है और सुधीर नाम से ज़िन्दगी जी रहा है और उसने एक रईस लड़की चांदनी से शादी कर ली है और एक उनका एक बेटा भी है|
