Summary :

Aarthi (Smita Patil) is an educated girl living with her young brother Sanjay Verma (Alankar Joshi) and her mother. She joins as the personal secretary to Jolly (Shakti Kapoor). Meanwhile Vijay (Raj Babbar) develops a desire that he should marry Aarthi, although he does not propose to her directly. One day Vijay finds that Aarthi's brother is a drug addict and promptly informs Aarthi. She convinces her brother to join the army so that he becomes a disciplined person in his life. After a few days Jolly tries to rape Aarthi and Vijay comes to the rescue.

Meanwhile Aarthi participates in a function where she is supposed to dance and there she is noticed for her dancing skills by the audience and from the audience section. After seeing her performance, Vijay's friend Ravi falls in love with Aarthi. Ravi even secures permission from his and her parents to marry her and gets engaged to her and after that Ravi goes abroad. However, Jolly manages to find a chance to rape Aarthi traumatizing her. On learning the truth, Ravi's parents cancel Ravi's marriage to Aarthi and at this juncture Aarthi finds out that Vijay had loved her the whole time. Vijay offers to marry her but his own mother disapproves of this alliance upon knowing that Aarthi is a girl who was raped in the past. Disillusioned, Aarthi goes and meets the courtesan Hirabai (Bindu) and becomes a Tawaif. After few months her brother returns to the town and after becoming aware of the events which took place, decides to kill Jolly. The plan backfires and Jolly kills him. To take revenge, Aarthi murders Jolly. The rest of the story is about how the court cases happens and what sentence is pronounced for Aarthi and whom will she marry at last.

इस फिल्म का निर्देशन महेश भट्ट ने किया था और फिल्म के मुख्य कलाकार थे राजेश खन्ना, स्मिता पाटिल, राज बब्बर, निरूपा रॉय | फिल्म 1986 में रिलीस हुई थी| इस फिल्म का संगीत अनु मलिक,आदेश श्रीवास्तवा ने दिया है|

आरती एक पढ़ी-लिखी लड़की है और अपने भाई संजय वर्मा और माँ के साथ रहती है| आरती को जोल्ली नामक आदमी के यहाँ सेक्रेटरी की नौकरी मिलती है| वहां उसकी मुलाकात विजय से होती है और उसके मन में आरती से शादी करने की इच्छा आती है| एक दिन विजय को पता चलता है कि आरती का भाई ड्रग्स लेता है और वह यह बात आरती को बताता है|

आरती संजय को समझाती है और उसे आर्मी में जाने को कहती है| कुछ दिनों बाद जोल्ली आरती के साथ ज़बरदस्ती करने की कोशिश करता है लेकिन विजय सही वक़्त पर पहुंचकर उसकी जान बचा लेता है| विजय के दोस्त रवि को आरती से प्यार हो जाता है| रवि अपने माता-पिता से आज्ञा लेकर आरती से सगाई करके विदेश चला जाता है| रवि के विदेश जाने पर जोल्ली आरती की इज्ज़त पर हमला करता है और उसकी ज़िन्दगी बर्बाद हो जाती है| सच्चाई पता चलने पर रवि के माता-पिता उनकी शादी तोड़ देते हैं| आरती को पता चलता है कि विजय उसे चाहता है और वह आरती की माँ से शादी के लिए उसका हाथ मांगता है| लेकिन विजय की माँ आरती को अस्वीकार कर देती है| आरती तवैफ हिराबाई के पास जाती है और एक तवैफ बन जाती है| कुछ महीनो बाद आरती का भाई वापिस लौटता है और जब उसे सब पता चलता है तो वह जोल्ली को जान से मारने का फैसला करता है लेकिन जोल्ली संजय को ही मरवा देता है| आरती बदले की आग में जोल्ली का खून कर देती है| आरती को पुलिस पकड़ कर ले जाती है|

क्या फैसला सुनाएगी कोर्ट आरती के लिए ? क्या आरती की शादी होगी ? अगर हाँ तो कौन थामेगा आरती का हाथ ?
